The Piano's Heartbeat: Finding Lifelong Joy in Music

My First Spark – Discovering the Magic of the Keys

While I learned to play a few instruments growing up, the piano remains my most beloved. I vividly recall watching an old video of my two-year-old self dancing as an electric piano filled the room with demo music. The beats, along with melodies, created a mood, an excitement, and most importantly, a spark! That first encounter was a moment of pure joy and curiosity, igniting a passion that continues to this day.

Carrying the Torch – How My Joy Informs My Teaching

This image of the "happy face" has been rooted deep within me, becoming the very core of my teaching. It's evident whether a student’s face lights up after mastering a challenging passage or they eagerly anticipate coming to lessons to play a favorite song. Witnessing this joy often brings me back to my own conservatory years, where I committed to extensive training and countless hours of practice. Yet, I was always fortunate to have excellent teachers who observed closely, approached insightfully, and provided immense encouragement that made the learning process enjoyable. This vital support fueled my enjoyment of playing and, in turn, inspired me to become a positive influence as an educator.

The Enduring Gift – Why Joyful Learning Lasts a Lifetime

I once had a student contact me years after she paused piano lessons due to a rigorous high school schedule, sharing she continued a music acitivity by singing in a choir. That truly demonstrated how, even though she couldn't play the piano at the moment, her love for music endured! Prioritizing joy in learning, therefore, contributes significantly to long-term engagement with music. It cultivates not just skill, but a rich inner life filled with creativity, resilience, emotional intelligence, and self-expression.
